    Cash Money Records to give away Thanksgiving turkeys

    The principals of Cash Money Records, the wildly successful rap label born on the streets of New Orleans, have more or less moved their base of operations to Miami. But label co-founders Bryan "Birdman" and Ronald "Slim" Williams are returning to their old neighborhood for Cash Money's annual turkey giveaway.

    Jeremy Davenport signs with Basin Street Records

    Mark Samuels, president and founder of the award-winning New Orleans' based record label, Basin Street Records, is pleased to announce the label has signed an exclusive recording agreement with trumpeter/vocalist/composer Jeremy Davenport. The first recording of this two record deal is scheduled to begin next month with a proposed spring 2009 release date.

    Veteran hard rock band Motley Crue is scheduled to headline the New Orleans Arena on Feb. 28, topping a bill that also includes Hinder, Theory of a Deadman and The Last Vegas.

    Regarding the subject of David Kunian's latest radio documentary, it's OK to ask:

    Why Jonathan Freilich?

    Founder of the New Orleans Klezmer All-Stars, Freilich doesn't appear to fit the near-mythological mold of some of Kunian's other radio-documentary subjects, who over the years have included drummer and composer James Black, Eddie "Guitar Slim" Jones and Earl King.

    Rockabilly songwriter Jody Reynolds dies

    Ralph Joseph "Jody" Reynolds, the rockabilly singer and songwriter whose lone hit "Endless Sleep" in the 1950s ushered in a wave of tragic teen pop songs, died Nov. 7. He was 75.

    Willie Clayton, T.K. Soul, Vick Allen and J. Blackfoot will be featured at the Leflore County Civic Center Saturday, March 7, 2009.
